How to Get a Fantastic Education System? - Special Lecture for Students of the XXVIII Generation

The first special lecture for the XXVIII Generation of Future Studies was held by Dejan Ilić, the founder and editor of the publishing house "Fabrika knjiga" and the magazine "Reč". Dejan has published several collections of essays and theoretical texts, from "Transitional Justice and the Interpretation of Literature: A Serbian Example" to the book "Fantastic School. New Contributions to a Different Curriculum: SF, Horror, Fiction".

Students had the opportunity to talk to the lecturer about the importance of education and school in the democratic education of citizens and they discussed how the education system affects the development of critical thinking. According to the lecturer, what makes the education system flawed is the imposition of the curriculum and the unreserved acceptance of authority by students in schools. That leads to the creation of obedient and unfree citizens shaped by the education system. Do you also think that it is possible to establish a decision-making process on the curriculum in which students would also participate? Would you consider that procedure as education for democracy?

Topics that also attracted students' attention were the functioning of the education system during the pandemic and the implementation of potential educational reforms in Serbia.

This special lecture was organized as a part of extra-curricular activities that are an integral part of the one-year educational programme Future Studies.
