The case study is an analytical method for studying a real situation or imaginary scenario. Describes events, provides answers and solutions to the challenges and problems that organizations, institutions and companies face in their work.
The aim of this form of the final project is to introduce students to organizational problems with which they have not had the opportunity to meet. In a relatively short time, students will learn and gain the ability to work in the team and gain insights on how to analyze the problems encountered by organizations, institutions, or companies and understand how they face it.
The Belgrade Open School provides training where students will learn what are the technical characteristics and basic rules for creating a case study. The BOS team, which will participate in the design of the topic of the case studies, will also be a mentoring team that will provide mentoring support during their work. Their task is to evaluate students' work and give them suggestions and advice that can be useful to them for future professional engagement.
Students task is to analyze the cases, present their interpretations and solutions previously determined by the topic of the case study. In their work, students use the method of assumptions and explanations. Students make teams of at least 2 and up to 3 students.
The case study illustrates what students have learned. The significance of the information they came to in their work becomes more clear when applied to the case study. Consequently, by analyzing the case study, students in some way become detectives who through a set of conceptual tools and skills conclude what happened and what is the essence of the problem in the case study. Management is an uncertain game, and the use of a case study as a method that reveals how theory can be applied is one way to improve the skills of diagnostic research and overcoming challenges.
Also, case studies provide an opportunity for students to gain experience in presenting their ideas to others. In such situation, students should organize their views and conclusions in order to present them in the best way. This is how we get to know the students how to make and present decisions in the real world of business.
