What are the consequences of Montenegro parliamentary elections? First panel of the BOS political triptych

On October 9, 2020, the first panel of the BOS political triptych titled How was the government in Montenegro changed: elections and its consequences was held. Vladimir Pavicevic and Milan Sitarski gave their takes and talked with alumni about this topic.

The panel was an opportunity to analyze and reflect on the opposition's victory in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro. Moderator Branko Vucinic, alumni of the 18th generation, compared this event with the October 5th and asked the panellists to explain the importance of these elections. Vladimir Pavicevic, alumni of the 7th generation, argued that three factors were crucial: the general willingness for change, well-organized opposition which ran in three blocks, and the international factor.

Milan Sitarski, alumni of the 2nd generation, pointed out that we had previously similar developments in Slovakia and Romania, and that now with Montenegro we can talk about a possible end of stabilocracies in this part of Europe. Both speakers stressed the important role of the Church for this outcome. During the Q&A session, there was talk about the possible roles in the future government and comparison with the situation in Serbia.

In the upcoming months, BOS will organize two more panels on the trending political topics: the US elections in November and Kosovo in December.
