Book Club: Do we live in a Brave new world?

XXVII Generation of the Future Studies discussed Aldous Huxley's Brave New World on February 2, 2020, as a part of BOS Book Club.Students talked with Future Studies programme advisor Marinko Vucinic about the themes of the Brave New World. They exchanged their views of whether the truth is more important than happiness and expressed their beliefs in the importance of critical thinking and philosophy for the free society. Without them, people would not be able to recognize the loss of freedom and the enforcement of total control, about which Huxley wrote. Through the discussion, as one of the most striking themes, students identified the dominance of consumerism, which brought to mind the state of contemporary society. General impression about the novel was it's relevance, timeliness and predictive power.

BOS Book Club is a traditional extra-curriculum activity of the BOS Future Studies programme that allows students an opportunity to discuss literature and share their thoughts and impressions of a particular book. Future Studies is a BOS programme of nonformal education that includes multidisciplinary knowledge and skills modules, Alumni2Students mentoring programme, internship programme, final project, and many side activities.
