Seminar goal was to introduce students with main concepts and functioning of the EU in order to prepare them for attending lectures within the spring semester’s Module Future of Europe.
Seminar was opened by the representative of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Nadezda Dramicanin, attaché for public relations. She introduced students with functions of the Delegation of the European Union and projects the EU is planning and implementing in Serbia. Then, mister Dominique Thierry, team leader of the EU Info Center in Serbia, presented the role of the EU Info Center, activities and projects that were implemented. He also invited students to participate in activities and to use services of the EU Info Center. Marina Rakic, public information officer of the EU Info Center, introduced students with individual and publishing activities and the ways how students can inform themselves about the EU via the EU Info Center and the official websites of the European Union.
During the first day of the seminar students listened lectures on history of the EU, its institutional framework and supranational and intergovernmental character, and they also voted, through simulation of decision-making in Council of the EU, whether the EU should intervene in Syria or not. Lecturers during the first day were students of the XIX and XX generation: Vladislav Lilic, Mihailo Gajic, Andrej Stefanovic, Tamara Brankovic, Vanja Dolapcev i Nikola Djuric. The second day was dedicated to public policies of the EU, where Vladimir Pavlovic, coordinator of the Center for European Integration (CAI) of the Belgrade Open School, introduced students with main concepts of advocating and creating policies within the EU. Then, Danijela Bozovic, project assistant in CEI, gave lecture on multilevel governance, while Vanja Dolapcev talked about the accession of Turkey and EU Enlargement Policy.
Therefore, all aspects of intuitional and political functioning of the EU were introduced and seminar achieved its goal on creating a platform which students will use in order to discuss issues on future of Europe and the EU within the spring semester at Future Studies.
