Alumni2Students Mentoring Programme

The Alimni2Students program is a part of SHARE & NETWORK Initiative of the Alumni Club of Belgrade Open School. It encourages meaningful and more intensive interaction between BOS members.

The creator of this program is Cedomir Kokanovic, an alumnus of the VI generation, a lawyer, and a mentor of the program.

The purpose of the program is to provide every and each BOS student of the current generation (mentee) with the support of older and more experienced alumni (mentor). The students can count on alumni's advice regarding future paths in professional, academic, and personal advancements. The mentors do not only have an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience but also to learn from their mentees about the latest trends of new generations.

In the academic year 2015/2016, a mentoring program was organized for the first time in the form of the buddy coaching program. It differs from the mentoring and traditional life-coach program since the alumni and the student do not have a defined goal and task to achieve in a given period. In the academic year 2015/2016, twenty selected alumni mentored twenty students.

The program takes place for eight months during the school year. In total, it encompasses eight one-hour sessions/meetings of mentoring couples to create a mentoring relationship that will last even after the formal expiration of the program.

The A2S program is neither professional nor academic mentoring, it is more of the idea of informal cooperation and socializing of two BOS members. Mentoring couples are free to organize their co-operation in a way that is mutually suited for them, that is to set the goals that they find most appropriate to their relationship.

Alumni of the Belgrade Open School, mentors on the program, Jelena Sribar and Cedomir Kokanovic, after the first year of realization of the mentoring program, in cooperation with the Belgrade Open School, prepared a guide for mentors and mentees for the academic year 2016/2017. The guide states that the Alumni2Students program is still an informal relationship, socializing and collaboration, but gives the mentor and mentee an opportunity to come up with a clear plan of goals that they want to achieve.
