Before coming to CEU I expected to gain new knowledge and experience, especially in the academic sense. Since I knew that CEU falls under the New York University, I was expecting a different system of work than the one in Germany.
Multiculturalism is definitely something that adorns CEU. It's not just a phrase, students at CEU literally come from all around the world. Socializing with colleagues from the former Yugoslavia was a valuable experience, which helped me to get to know their views and opinions, and thus to better understand the situation in the region.
The system of work at CEU is, so to speak, more user-friendly than ours. It allows students to explore what they are most interested in, and professors are much more flexible in that sense. Therefore you can deal with a specific topic that interests you and you search for literature by yourself. Besides that, professors are very approachable, if nothing else, at least they respond to emails on a regular basis. :)
Students who wish to apply should know that the average mark is not so important, it is important to decide what you want to do, what you want to explore and to formulate your area of interest as good as possible.
