The Belgrade Open School participates in the "Energy Transformation and Decarbonization in the Western Balkans" project. The leading organization on the project is GermanWatch from Germany, and the consortium also includes organizations EkoSvest from Skopje and Balkan Green Foundation from Priština.
The general goal of the project is the transition of the energy sector in the Western Balkans in the direction of a greater share of renewable energy sources, reduction of gases with the greenhouse effect and respect for the social aspects of the energy transition. The project contributes to this goal by building a strong network of civil society in the region, which, in close cooperation with academia and the private sector, should jointly participate in the development of an ambitious policy to combat climate change, primarily through involvement in the drafting and adoption of NECP.
Expected results:
- Improving cooperation and empowering different actors involved in the policy of combating climate change at the national and regional level;
- Contribution to the adoption and implementation of the ambitious policy of combating climate change in the countries of the Western Balkans and mapping the path for the decarbonization of the Western Balkans.
Main activities:
- Establishment of "Climate Coalitions" in the Western Balkans, their regular meetings and capacity building
- Regional cooperation of "Climate coalitions" through annual regional meetings and exchange of experience
- Two study visits to examples of good practice in energy policy in the Western Balkans
- Creation and advocacy of the Roadmap for decarbonization at the national and regional level.
The project is being implemented in the period from December 2022 to June 2025 with the support of the (Germany) Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – BMZ.
