New generation of New leaders - XII Regional school of democracy

01. Aug 2018.

The Belgrade Open School (BOS) in association with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Serbia and the Foundation Eduardo Frei from the Netherlands, realized the XI Regional School of Democracy "New Leaders - New Opportunities" for youth representatives of the political parties, right-center oriented, from countries of the Western Balkan, from July 23th to 27th at Srebrno jezero.

Participants of this year's school are representatives of right-centre parties from Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Kosovo[i].

How to assemble and disassemble a team, and which values make us decide to join certain political parties are just a few questions that students of the five-day regional school got the answers to, through interactive lectures and workshops. The lectures that sparked the most discussions were from Dragan Živojinović from the Faculty of political science, Vladimir Pavićević and Milan Sitarski from Belgrade open school.

The way that the European values are transposed within the Dutch electoral campaign and the way that they are represented by  Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) was talked about by Hester Tjalma-den Oudsten, while  Wendy Zuidema-Haans spoke about the concept of integrity in politics, and dilemmas that political representatives most commonly face.

On the last day, the participants talked about the process of decision making, active listening and consensus with the director of Belgrade open school - Vesna Đukić, trough a simulation of post-election coalitions.

Young leaders have trough this programme, which has currently counts over 200 alumni, gained new knowledge, skills and extra motivation which will help them improve regional political cooperation.
