Local self-government pilots in digital information booklets

06. Jul 2017.

The first local self-governments to test application for development of digital information booklets, which is still in the process of development, participated in the workshop organized by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on July 5, with the support of the Belgrade Open School (BOS) and the Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA). The workshop was organized within the project "Open Data - Open Opportunities", which was implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The workshop was dedicated to introduce local self-governments with the concept of open data, a demo version of the digital information booklets, and the possibilities of utilization of open data from digital information booklets by civil society. Following local self-governments took part in the workshop: Zrenjanin, Novi Sad, Užice, Pančevo, Leskovac, Bečej, Vranje, Niš, Novi Pazar and Loznica. Besides the representatives of the UNDP office, BOŠ and CRTA, the workshop was also hosted by Tin Geber, creative strategist, designer and technologist, as well as Ivan Branković, the author of the digital information booklets application and UNDP consultant for open data.

Project Coordinator at the Beograd Open School, Sanja Nasevski, presented the results of project "Local transparency booster" to participants, which included a research on the availability and quality of information booklets of local self-governments (more about the results is available on the website www.dostup.no). Based on this research, in partnership with CRTA, BOS proposed measure for redesign of information booklets in the scope of the Action Plan for Implementation of Open Government Partnership for 2016 and 2017, in Serbia.

After the workshop, the next step is cooperation with the municipalities in testing the application for development of digital information booklets, and inclusion of local civil society organizations that will develop ideas for utilization of open data from digital information booklets in order to solve the problems of the local community.
