PolitiKAS: On German elections at first hand

Participants of the educational program "PolitiKAS", on Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 in the premises of the Belgrade Open School, had the opportunity to listen to an interesting lecture by Mr Karsten Buchholz on the German electoral system.

Guests at the lecture were Ms Gordana Pilipovic, project coordinator of the KAS, as well as BOS's Executive Director Milorad Bjeletic, who welcomed the participants and gave an introductory speech.

Mr Karsten Buchholz introduced the participants to the basics of German electoral system and brief parliamentary history. An inevitable topic was the recent parliamentary elections, and this topic has raised the most questions and made the lecture very interesting. It was also about political parties, their profiles, political agendas and coalition strategies. The participants had the opportunity to hear at first hand questions about the issues that are currently being discussed in the "Jamaica Coalition".

Mr Karsten Buchholz is a deputy associate and member of the Bundestag committees dealing with EU issues, so the current theme of elections was connected with the European issues and the implications they will have on EU.

This lecture was an excellent summary of a lecture on the security issues facing Europe and the institutional mechanisms through which security policy is being implemented, and students discussed this with the director of the Belgrade Security Center Sonja Stojanovic Gajic.
