Make Change - Travel more Sustainable!

Author: Jelisaveta Jovanovic

Year of publication: 2020

All over the world, but especially in Europe, the free movement of people is easier and cheaper than ever, that is, travel has never been so accessible. In 2019, the number of visits by international tourists amounted to close to 1.5 billion, while the tourism industry was the third largest export category. Therefore, the consequences for the national economy as well as the environment were significant. However, the year 2020 brought a new normality and made travel impossible, that is, it opened a space for thinking about the (un)sustainability of our tourist habits. In this regard, a guide has been created with specific suggestions and tips for responsible and sustainable travel.

This guide is the result of the work of young people from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Moldova and Romania who participated in the competition "50 ideas for Europe", especially awarded in the fields of Mobile and Traveling Europe and Europe for You (th) which were the basis of this publication. Without their creative and innovative ideas as well as initiated changes at the local, national, regional and European level, this analysis, ie. publication would not be possible.

The publication was created through the project "50 ideas for Europe: New leaders, New Opportunities" which is realized by the Belgrade Open School with the support of the Novi Sad – European Youth Capital 2019 (OPENS).

This practical policy proposal is the result of the work of young people from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Moldova and Romania who participated in the "50 Ideas for Europe" competition, especially in the areas of Inclusive Europe, Tech Europe and Europe for You(th) which were the basis of this publication. Without their creative and innovative ideas as well as initiated changes at the loca, national, regional and European level, this analysis, ie. publication would not be possible.

Find your EU opportunity

Author: Jelisaveta Jovanovic

Year of publication: 2020

The problem of young people's lack of information about available European Union (EU) programs is especially pronounced among youth from non-EU countries. The data show that young people from non-EU countries participate in volunteer programs, youth and student exchanges, international seminars, internship programs and other forms of non-formal education across the continent, which are available to young people from the EU, but also young people from countries they are not members of the EU. In this regard, a manual has been created which is not only a source of information about opportunities for young people, but also a tool for organizing a campaign that aims to inform more young people about these opportunities.

This awareness campaign is the result of the work of young people from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Moldova and Romania who participated in the "50 Ideas for Europe" competition, especially those awarded in the field of Europe for You(th) which were the basis of this publication. Green Europe Tailored to Young People

Author: Predrag Momcilovic

Year of publication: 2020

Young people across Europe are concerned about the ecological future of their continent as well as the entire planet. Due to the daily encounter with growing environmental problems, awareness is growing, but also the need of young people to fix these problems and to provide a green future for young people. This is also shown by research that says that more and more young people are facing climate and environmental anxiety. This fear stems from the feeling that we have lost or are on the way to losing something big and important, due to environmental degradation and climate change. Yet young people across Europe are not passive.

The awareness-raising campaign on environmental issues is the result of the work of young people from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Moldova and Romania who participated in the "50 Ideas for Europe", competition especially awarded in the field of Eco-friendly Europe, which were the basis of this publication. Without their creative and innovative ideas as well as initiated changes at the local, national, regional and European level, this analysis, ie. publication would not be possible.

Authors: Belgrade Open School (Serbia), Access Info Europe (Spain), Gong (Croatia), Institute Alternative (Montenegro), PiNA (Slovenia)

Published: 2020

The recommendations in this document are the result of the research activities and discussions which were organised within the “YOU4EU – Citizen Participation 2.0” Project.

The research activities were implemented from December 2018 to July 2019 and included a campaign on social networks aimed at collecting citizens’ questions, a compilation of stakeholders’ answers to these questions, and the publication “50 Questions from YOU to the EU” which summarised key citizens’ concerns and provided an overview of recommendations for the improvement of citizen participation.

Within the Project, four public events were organised, one in each of Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Serbia, between September and December 2019. Participants in these events had the opportunity to exchange views on the main challenges for the establishment of an inclusive and transparent society at the EU and national levels.

During the implementation of the YOU4EU Project, we found an urgent need to act to improve transparency and participation. This document sets out the main conclusions, gathered during the project activities in all five participating countries, and a series of specific recommendations for the European Union and national governments.
