Belgrade Open School (BOS) held a series of trainings on digital privacy and the importance of personal data protection in schools throughout Serbia. Trainings for high school students and teachers, a total of 120 students from 13 schools and 11 cities in Serbia participated in them from November 2020 to March 2021.
In order to bring this topic closer to young people, the trainings consisted of theoretical and practical work, which was especially interesting for students, because it involved the analysis of social networks. After the introductory module, where participants were introduced to the right to privacy and personal data protection mechanisms, participants were given guidelines for developing a practical task on key issues of privacy and digital violence on social networks. Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat, and the students then presented their work and discussed the main risks and problems of digital privacy.
The students had the support of their teachers during the entire training, the goal of which is not to self-improve the knowledge and skills of students, but also educators.
Taking into account the worrying level of personal data protection in Serbia and insufficient information of young people about the importance of this problem and the importance of protecting their and other people's privacy, BOS strives to contribute to increasing the visibility of this problem among young people and teachers.
The trainings were held within the project Save Privacy - Resist Pressure (Reclaiming Privacy: A Tool to Fight Oppression), which Belgrade Open School is implementing in cooperation with Partners Serbia, SHARE Foundation, Association Da se zna, NGO Atina and A11 Initiative, with the support of the Delegation European Union in the Republic of Serbia.
