Ever since BOS started working in the field of career guidance and counseling in accordance with the needs of the economy, out activities have been focused on high schools. We believe that a good quality high school education is the key link in the human resource development system, so we created numerous programmes and services intended for high schools.
With the aim of strengthening capacities of teams for career guidance and counselling in secondary schools, Belgrade open school team has developed and accredited by the Institute for improvement of education and upbringing three programmes for the professional development of teachers.
- Training Career guidance and counselling in secondary schools – basic training aims to strengthen capacities of schools’ teams to prepare and carry out quality programs and plans for career guidance and counselling. A special emphasis in training is on traditional and modern conceptions of career; development and current state of affairs regarding services of career guidance and counselling in Serbia; theoretical underpinnings and phases of career guidance and counselling as well as planning and creating career guidance and counselling programs in secondary education. The training duration is one day, and it is listed in the catalogue of the Institute for improvement of education and upbringing under the number 34.
- Training One step further towards comprehensive and quality services of career guidance and counselling is intended for representatives of schools’ teams for career guidance and counselling who already have basic knowledge in this area, and want to improve their competencies for carrying out quality services for the development of career management skills of students. Some of the topics covered through the training include: acquiring career management skills of students; encouraging self-esteem; career informing: decision-making and career planning; preparing a CV and preparing for a job interview. The training duration is two days, and it is listed in the catalogue of the Institute for improvement of education and upbringing under the number 38.
- Career guidance and counselling has an important role in reducing the dropout rates of students in secondary schools, so the aim of the training Career guidance and counselling as a mechanism for the prevention of students drop-out is to develop competencies of teachers and strengthen capacities of schools to conduct programs of career guidance and counselling with a special emphasis on young people in risk of drop-out. Through the training participants can learn how to: better understand the position and characteristics of students in risk of dropping out, recognize signals of risk, recognize the role of teams for career guidance and counselling and plan the activities with the aim of prevention of dropping out, as well as to recognize the significance and plan the cooperation with students’ families. The training duration is one day, and it is listed in the catalogue of the Institute for improvement of education and upbringing under the number 33.
The Career Guidance and Counseling School Teams Fair is organized with the goal of connecting and promoting high schools which can boast about their career guidance and counseling programs and activities for students and parents, as well as their cooperation with the local business community.
"National Annual Conference on Career Guidance and Counseling" is an event where high school representatives can share their experiences in this field, but also familiarize themselves with current events in the professional and practical political field regarding career guidance. This conference is also accredited by the Institute for the Improvement of Education.
