On July 9th, together with a partner organization - Association of Young Researchers Bor, Belgrade Open School organized a workshop titled 2030 Agenda and planning system at the local level in the field of environment, intended for representatives of local civil society organizations. The aim of the workshop was to empower civil society representatives in Bor to actively monitor and participate in the process of drafting the Local Development Plan.
The first session was dedicated to the 2030 Agenda, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals, with special reference to the goals related to environmental protection (SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15). Furthermore, the participants expressed their views on local issues related to various areas of the environment, which are covered by the above-mentioned Sustainable Development Goals. For example, during a discussion centered around the Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean water and sanitation, representatives of local civil society organizations presented pressing issues, as well as the potentials of Bor related to water management. A similar discussion was developed around other SDGs. In this way, local problems are mapped and linked to specific Sustainable Development Goals. The information obtained through the workshop will serve as a starting point for creating the part of the Local Development Plan related to the environment.
The topic of the second session was strategic planning and development of public policies at the local level in the Republic of Serbia. In addition, the participants were introduced to the Law on the Planning System of the Republic of Serbia, the process of public policies development and the connection between public policies at the national and public policies at the local level was explained. The central part of this session referred to the process of drafting, adopting and monitoring the implementation of the Local Development Plan, which was established by the aforementioned Law on the Planning System of the Republic of Serbia as an obligation for all local self-governments in Serbia.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the Sustainable Development for All Platform, supported by the Governments of Switzerland and Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The project partners are the Belgrade Open School, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, the Center for Advanced Economic Studies, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, the Center for Democracy Foundation, and the Timoc Youth Center.
The Sustainable Development for All Platform implies the establishment of a public dialogue among the most important non-state actors in Serbia, such as civil society, corporate sector, academic and research community, professional associations, media, and citizens, on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The idea is to facilitate interaction with decision-makers on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the goals contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
