On Tuesday, November 24, 2020, in the online classroom of the Belgrade Open School, Andrej Josifovski, better known as Pijanista, talked to the students of the XXVIII generation.
Andrej Josifovski is a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Architecture, but above all, he is a street artist who points out important socio-political topics through his works, murals, and portraits. Pijanista spoke about his way of acting in the reality that surrounds us, showed his works and analyzed them together with the students. They discussed the difficulties he encounters as an activist who expresses his views through street art. Facing misdemeanor charges, removing his graffiti and murals, but also people's prejudices and belittling street art are just some of the obstacles. However, his series of guerilla works provoke significant controversy in society.
His work also includes murals that attract a lot of attention and represent an open-air museum in Belgrade. Through them, Pijanista is sending inspiring messages all over the world.
Pijanista ended his lecture by emphasizing the importance of understanding his message by the audience. One of the last works was a portrait of Jovan Memedovic made with bottles collected from rivers in order to raise awareness about nature conservation, as well as the importance of waste recycling in achieving this goal.
This special lecture was organized as a part of extra-curricular activities that are an integral part of the one-year educational programme Future Studies.
