On November 10, Petar Peca Popovic held a lecture Half a century after Woodstock: the event and the effects for the XXVII Generation of Future Studies in BOS classroom. Both students of the current, XXVII generation and numerous alumni came to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary rock music festival through conversation with the famous journalist and rock critic. Using archive photos and stories from the festival, Peca Popovic gave the audience the feeling what was it like to be in Woodstock in 1969. He explained the context and organizational background for the 4-day festival and pointed out that the festival location was actually changed two times and that all the prepared food disappeared on the very first day. To provide meals for the audience, the organizers had to find inventive methods. So, for example, women from the Jewish Center prepared 30000 sandwiches which were distributed via helicopter drops.
Reflecting on the influence of Woodstock 50 years later, Peca Popovic said that the festival was a symbol of a unique system of values, beliefs in ideals and in the possibility of positive social change through music. He finished the lecture with the story of the anniversary festival in 2019. All the changes brought on by time are perhaps best illustrated with the fact that, for his performance in 1969, Santana was paid 750$, while in 2019, most expensive tickets for his concert cost over 1700$.
The lecture was organized as a part of extra-curricular activities within the BOS Future Studies, a one-year programme of nonformal education. The programme includes multidisciplinary knowledge and skills modules, Alumni2Students mentoring programme, internship programme, final project, and many side activities.
