The youth are information disseminators and media creators

22. Sep 2018.

A training on the basics of journalism, within the capacity building program intended for journalists of Mingl e-journal, was held in Belgrade Open School, on Saturday, September 22nd. The training was delivered by Ms Lidija Tomić, from Deuthschle Welle Academy, and Mr Adam Santovac, TV journalist from N1 TV.

During the first day of the training, Ms Lidija Tomić presented some of the essentials of journalism and various types of journalism. Training participants were acquainted with essentials of the interview, in the first part of the training. A presentation on different types of journalism followed, with a lecture and discussion on informative, interpretative, analytical, beletristical, illustrative and non-journalist styles. Particular attention was dedicated to writing the news, as a fundamental form of journalism. Other forms, such as reports, were covered through the training as well.

Mr Adam Santovac illustrated his lecture with examples form his professional experience, by sharing his view on how to present environmental topics in practice, which was followed with a discussion on some of his most notable media reports on the subject. Participants then engaged in a short workshop aimed at inspiring young journalists to produce suitable media content covering the topic of environment.

The main conclusion of this training is that the youth are information disseminators and media creators, which makes it very important for them to adopt critical approach when receiving new information.

This training is a part of activities within the “Green Youth” project, implemented by Belgrade Open School with the support of the Ministry of Environment Protection of Serbia. The aim of this project is to raise capacities of journalists from Mingl youth e-journal, for producing environment-related media content for youth.
