Belgrade Open School (BOS) held the accredited training "Career guidance and counseling in high schools - basic training" on May 7th and 8th, 2018, in hotel Park, Belgrade. More than 20 teachers and associates from 10 high schools in Serbia, which have dual education programmes, took part in the training.
Jelena Manic Radoicic, programme manager for the Improvement of employability programme at BOS, launched the event by greeting participants and informing them on activities and contributions of Belgrade Open School in the field of career guidance and counseling.
During the first day of the training, the participants had a chance to familiarize with the modern idea of career and discuss different modalities of career guidance and counseling with Tamara Stanojevic, career counselor and project coordinator at BOS. Through interactive sessions, the participants generated ideas for career guidance and counseling workshops which they will be able to implement in the future, with close mentorship of BOS.
In addition, Jelena Manic Radoicic introduced the participants to the conceptual and strategic side of career guidance and counseling, as well as with the official Standard for career guidance and counseling. The participants had a chance to analyze the career guidance and counseling activities in schools, in accordance with the Standard, and with the objective for improvement of said activities.
During the second day of the training, teachers, and associates had a chance to learn about career informing, counseling and active job hunting, through workshops and with expert support from the trainers. The goal was to generate ideas for the implementation of career guidance and counseling activities in their schools. Emphasis was given to challenges of career guidance and counseling of students who are part of dual educational programmes.
At the end of the training, Jelena Manic Radoicic emplored participants to use the knowledge gained at the training through different activities, such as developing personal action plans which are supposed to help them successfully realize workshops in their schools.
The training was realized as the first project activity within the project "Quality services for better youth employment - KviS on BIS" with the financial support of Solidar Suisse - Office in Serbia. The training is accredited by The Institute for Advancing Education and Upbringing (ZUOV) and carries 16 points.
