The last lecture on the one-year program of non-formal education the "Future Studies" was held on Wednesday, 9th of May, at the premises of the Belgrade Open School. Students of the jubilee XXV generation had the opportunity to participate in an unusual conversation and reflection on Physics and Metaphysics of the Heart together with the professor of cardiac surgery Stamenko Susak.
Our students tried, in yet another, equal and open discussion with each other and with a lecturer to respond to various medical, philosophical and life-related issues. Is the heart an organ, a muscle, a pump, or something more? What is a man - a brain or a heart? At what point does life starts? When does it stop? Are humans psycho-somatic beings, how science attempts to define them, or is there a third, perhaps a fourth dimension of humans existence? This interactive lecture has been concluded in a unique way in which the Belgrade Open School seeks to awaken, strengthen and encourage its students, and these things are a critical reflection of reality, comprehensiveness in thinking, autonomy in making conclusions and the freedom of speech.
The best students of Belgrade universities had the opportunity to talk to prominent experts from the field of personal development, international relations, the future of the state and society, European integration in the past two semesters within the four teaching modules of knowledge and skills. The topics that they covered are concerning public speaking, leadership, sustainable development, the future of the Schengen area.
The good news is that socializing continues through the remaining segments of the program. Students are working on their final projects in the form of academic essay, policy paper or case study, regular meetings with mentors within the Alumni2Students program, but also socializing through informal gatherings, visits to cultural institutions, historical monuments and various other activities.
