Dusan Kovacevic, BOS alumni (the VI Generation) and Johns Hopkins SAIS alumni and Milos Milivojevic, member of the XXIII BOS Generation and MA student at this prestigious faculty located in Washington D.C. and Bologna, held a lecture titled Career after MA abroad: Experience From Johns Hopkins SAIS. They presented their path from the decision to enrol at this faculty, through studying experience, to further career plans and jobs.
Dusan pointed out the significance of the Johns Hopkins SAIS alumni network, which is very developed and connected. He explained how he went from BA studies in the US, worked in Serbia and build a career at international financial institutions in Washington and Luxembourg, highlighting the role of a degree from Johns Hopkins SAIS in it. Reflecting on the main draws of this school, he singled out the focus on economics and the opportunity to live and study in Bologna.
Milos talked about his motivation to apply for this faculty and numerous dilemmas he had during the application phase. He stressed the importance of preparation and serious commitment this process requires, pointing out the help he got from alumni, professors and mentors. He added that the fact a candidate is from Serbia is not a con, but a pro, since it makes him or her stand out.
During the Q&A, Dusan and Milos talked about the differences between the educational systems in continental Europe and the Anglo-Saxon world. Finally, they offered numerous practical tips and advice for studying abroad and building a career.
