Webinar on the Sustainable Development Goal number 12 „How do we step out of the consumption and step into sustainability?“

01. Mar 2021.

The Sustainable Development Goal number 12 envisages that in the decade that is just beginning globally we will achieve sustainable production and consumption: to halve food losses, reduce waste generation and achieve proper management of chemicals and all forms of waste and significantly reduce air, water and soil pollution. After a completely extraordinary 2020, we have a lot of questions, but it seems that it is becoming increasingly clear that we need a better understanding of how the great living system of which we are a part works and what it really is - sustainability. It seems necessary to recognize the laws of nature - to remember the fact that we live on a planet that has its physical boundaries and to recognize that the health and happiness of individuals and communities are also a great value, something really important.

Where is Serbia in this process? Circular economy, sustainable development, waste-free life - how far have we come with education on these topics? What are good examples of sustainable production and consumption practices? What are these ways and is it possible for production processes to become not destructive but regenerative? How can these great challenges not only be the cause of social and economic tensions and dangers, but also be an inspiration and support for the well-being of the whole community?

We invite you to join us to find out the answers to these and other questions on FRIDAY, March 5, 2021 at 6 p.m.

Our speakers are:

  • Ana Kalušević, Engineering Technology PhD, Bachelor of Science in Food Technology of Plant Products, Secretary of the association Serbian Food Technology Council
  • Dunja Jovanović, Author and host of the F.fm podcast and founder of the Association for Sustainable Initiatives
  • Marija Radaković, Author and host of the F.fm podcast and founder of the Association for Sustainable Initiatives

The Belgrade Open School will realize a series of webinars dedicated to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in the period from September 2020 to February 2021.

The webinar „How do we step out of the consumption and step into sustainability?“ on Sustainable Development Goal number 12: Responsible Consumption and Production was organized within the framework of the Sustainable Development for All Platform, supported by the Governments of Switzerland and Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The project partners are the Belgrade Open School, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, the Center for Advanced Economic Studies, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, the Center for Democracy Foundation, and the Timoc Youth Center.

The Sustainable Development for All Platform implies the establishment of a public dialogue among the most important non-state actors in Serbia, such as civil society, corporate sector, academic and research community, professional associations, media, and citizens, on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The idea is to facilitate interaction with decision-makers on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the goals contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
