The project team of the Belgrade Open School, in cooperation with local partners – Vojvodina Environmental Movement, filmed two reports in Sremski Karlovci within the Sustainable Development for All Platform. The reports refer to the 2030 Agenda and certain Sustainable Development Goals, as well as their impact and significance for local communities in Serbia. They provide answers to questions about the connection between Sustainable Development Goals and tourism, viticulture or the impact of climate change on Sremski Karlovci.
The first report "Sustainable future of Sremski Karlovci - protected natural areas and sustainable tourism" talks about Karlovacki dunavac as part of the Special Nature Reserve "Koviljsko-petrovaradinski rit" of importance for Sremski Karlovci and the development of sustainable tourism in this municipality, in the context of Sustainable Development Goal number 15 - Life on land and Sustainable Development Goal number 12 - Responsible consumption and production. It is also following the action of setting up a firebox on the Karlovacki rukavac, which was carried out by the Vojvodina Environmental Movement with its volunteers in order to contribute to the sustainable behavior of tourists in that area. The volunteer, Marija Petrović, told her fellow citizens: "Be the change you want to see."
The second report "Sustainable future of Sremski Karlovci - the impact of climate change" talks about the impact of climate change on viticulture, as one of the main industries in Sremski Karlovci in the context of Sustainable Development Goal number 13 "Climate action" and sustainable tourism that belongs to sustainable development goal number 12 "Responsible consumption and production".
Our interlocutors on the mentioned topics were employees and volunteers of the Vojvodina Environmental Movement, Belgrade Open School, representative of The Public Company for Forest Management “Vojvodinašume”, director of the Tourist Organization Sremski Karlovci, professor from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad, Karlovac winemakers, but also tourists and citizens.
Both reports were filmed within the framework of the Sustainable Development for All Platform, supported by the Governments of Switzerland and Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The project partners are the Belgrade Open School, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, the Center for Advanced Economic Studies, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, the Center for Democracy Foundation, and the Timoc Youth Center.
The Sustainable Development for All Platform implies the establishment of a public dialogue among the most important non-state actors in Serbia, such as civil society, corporate sector, academic and research community, professional associations, media, and citizens, on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The idea is to facilitate interaction with decision-makers on aligning Serbia’s development priorities with the goals contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
